Job summary

The YMCA of South Florida is seeking a part‑time Swim Coach to supervise practices, assist with programs, and represent the YMCA at team events. You will support safety, teach stroke technique, and coordinate with the Aquatics Director.

You will recruit and retain participants, plan workouts, attend meets, and ensure quality coaching in line with YMCA policies. This role requires leadership, communication, and a commitment to the YMCA mission.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively discipline, counsel, and evaluate job performance.
• This position must ensure that all members have the opportunity to participate in high quality, mission driven programs in a safe aquatic environment.
• Computer literate; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, e‑mail and Internet.
• Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
• Good judgment and solid decision making skills; strong oral and written communication skills; excellent customer service skills; and an attitude of professionalism and respect.
• Ability to interact well with all levels of members, parents, staff, management, and YMCA Board of Directors.
• Ability to handle occasional stressful conditions, react calmly in emergency situations, and work irregular hours.
• Sensitivity to, understanding, and support of the YMCA mission and core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
• Coaching skills should include stroke analysis, familiarity with current coaching trends, use of video, dry land training and swimmer motivation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise swim team practices and other groups as needed.
• Plan and supervise workouts; teach stroke analysis; drills and techniques; stay current with coaching trends.
• Help implement new competitive aquatics programs and handle participant recruitment, retention, and program administration.
• Provide member services and promote the swim team program; communicate with parents and other coaches about assignments and progress.
• Assist in feeder program development and recruitment strategy for team growth.
• Attend swim meets and assist with event preparation for meets and related activities.
• Teach Private Competitive Lessons through the YMCA and manage paperwork and payments through the YMCA system.
