Job summary

Milk Education in Dorking, Surrey, is seeking a caring SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with additional needs from September 2026. The role involves 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils access the curriculum and follow personalised plans.

Ideal candidates will have experience with SEND/ASMH or complex needs, strong communication and teamwork, and a passion for promoting learning, development, and wellbeing in a supportive school environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, ASD, or complex needs is beneficial.
  • Patient, compassionate and understanding of individual needs.
  • Confident supporting pupils with a range of abilities and behaviours.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs (SEND, ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties).
  • Support pupils with accessing the curriculum and completing learning activities.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to deliver personalised support plans.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and social development.
  • Use appropriate strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and wider school activities.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
