Job summary

Cover People are seeking a Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a school in Salford, supporting young people who require additional help with their learning, communication and personal development.

This role involves one-to-one and small-group support, adapting activities to diverse needs, and assisting with personal care as required while promoting independence and positive behaviour.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
• A good understanding of additional learning and developmental needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A calm and flexible approach to supporting behaviour and engagement.
• The ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate guidance.
• Confidence working with teachers and other professionals.
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one and small-group assistance during lessons.
• Adapting learning activities to suit different abilities and needs.
• Supporting pupils with autism, learning difficulties and communication needs.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Promoting appropriate behaviour and helping pupils manage transitions throughout the school day.
• Reinforcing classroom routines and supporting emotional regulation.
• Delivering targeted learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.
• Following individual support plans and agreed strategies.
• Monitoring engagement and sharing observations with teachers.
• Helping maintain a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
• Assisting with personal care where required and in line with individual care plans.
