Job summary

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse to join the surgical services team. You will assess patients awaiting elective surgery, identify risks, coordinate investigations, and educate patients about their surgical journey.

The post holder will liaise with anaesthetists, surgeons, and theatre teams, maintain records, and ensure compliance with NHS guidelines and patient safety standards. Current NMC registration is required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate compassionate, patient-centred care for adults undergoing elective procedures.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff.
• Perform clinical skills such as venepuncture and ECG recording as part of pre-operative assessments.

Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessments for elective surgery patients.
• Review medical histories, medications, and investigations and coordinate required tests.
• Provide information and education about the surgical pathway and fasting/postoperative care.
• Maintain accurate patient records in line with national guidelines and Trust policies.
• Support the learning and development of colleagues and students where appropriate.
