Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a Healthcare Security Officer to join our security team across Leicester's three sites. You will safeguard patients, staff and visitors, respond to incidents and de‑escalate challenging behaviours in a busy hospital environment.

The role requires vigilance, empathy and clear communication, with training provided and enhanced payments for unsociable hours. The closing date is 22 October 2026, and prior applicants need not apply.

Qualifications

• Good spoken English.
• Good reading and writing skills.
• Valid UK Manual Driving Licence.
• SIA Licence or equivalent security training.
• Knowledge of Health NHS services.

Responsibilities

• Provide a security presence across all hospital areas with polite, compassionate service.
• Arming and disarming intruder alarms; monitor alarm systems and assist with fire procedures.
• De-escalate distressed or aggressive individuals and respond to incidents.
• Potentially detain patients under clinical guidance when required for safety.
• Cover 24-hour security across Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield and General Hospital.
