Job summary

MHA is seeking a reliable Domestic Assistant for Elmside care home in Hitchin. You will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, with duties across residents’ rooms and communal areas.

The role emphasizes dignity, infection prevention and respectful care, with a 7-day rota and opportunities for training and professional development within a values-driven organisation.

Qualifications

• Previous experience of domestic or cleaning work (desirable).
• Ability to work well as part of a team and use your own initiative.
• Good communication and listening skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and prioritise tasks effectively.
• Sensitivity to the needs of older people.
• Flexible approach to work, including a 7-day rota.
• QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care desirable but training provided.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of residents’ rooms, bathrooms, offices and communal areas.
• Carry out cleaning tasks in line with schedules, including carpet cleaning where required.
• Respect residents’ privacy, dignity and personal space at all times.
• Use and store cleaning equipment safely and correctly in line with COSHH.
• Report faulty equipment, hazards or damage to a senior colleague.
• Attend training, staff meetings, supervisions and appraisals.
• Follow MHA policies including health & safety, infection prevention and safeguarding.
