Job summary

Ayrshire Independent Living Network (AILN) in Galston is seeking a Support Worker to assist a young adult with Down syndrome in the community, promoting independence and wellbeing.

You will accompany him to activities such as swimming, social clubs, walks, and meals, and you may be required to drive a mobility vehicle. A full driving licence is essential and PVG disclosure will be needed; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Full driving licence is required.
• Experience of supporting individuals with epilepsy or challenging behaviour is beneficial.
• PVG Disclosure Scotland will be processed for the role.
• Two references, one from the most recent employer, are required.
• Six-month probationary period applies.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred support to a young adult with Down syndrome.
• Accompany him to activities including swimming, social clubs and meals.
• Promote independence, confidence and wellbeing in daily life.
• Assist with transport as needed and build a trusting relationship.
• Attend to safety and respond to challenging behaviours with a calm approach.
