Job summary

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils (trading as South & Vale) is seeking a Community Safety Officer to support the Community Safety Partnership, tackle local challenges, and deliver practical solutions that improve residents' safety and wellbeing. You will work with partners, manage ASB cases, coordinate CSP subgroups, and contribute to safeguarding responses.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of project management and chairing meetings.
  • Good report writing and IT skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and email.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven team working skills, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on anti-social behaviour (ASB) case management.
  • Lead on community safety projects that support the CSP's priorities (e.g. rural crime, exploitation and serious violence, violence against women and girls).
  • Co-ordinate CSP subgroups (including producing papers, minute taking, chairing meetings and monitoring delivery of actions).
  • Investigate and respond to time critical safeguarding concerns through partnership working to ensure residents are kept safe.
  • Provide advice to council teams and partner agencies on wider community safety matters, such as crime prevention, serious violence and modern slavery.
  • Attend external partnership meetings to represent the community safety team to share best practice and maximise joint working.

About the role

As a Community Safety Officer, you will be supporting the South and Vale Community Safety Partnership (CSP) to help deliver initiatives that keep our communities safe. Using your problem-solving skills, initiative, and collaborative approach, you will work with partners to identify and address local challenges, develop effective solutions, and make a positive impact for residents.

Essential criteria for the role
  1. Educated to A level or equivalent standard
  2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Please note in this role you will be required to live within a reasonable commuting distance to the districts. (Although the councils are offering hybrid working arrangements, due to the nature of this role living within a reasonable commuting distance of the districts is an essential requirement). Including requirement for a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
