Job summary

Essex County Council's Adult Community Learning (ACL) is seeking a passionate Community Trainer to deliver inclusive, learner-centred programmes across Essex, based in Colchester. You will help adults build confidence and skills, delivering English, maths, digital and wellbeing courses within community settings.

We welcome applicants with tutoring or outreach experience who are committed to widening participation and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering learning, training or support to adults.
• Strong understanding of inclusive and learner-centred teaching practice.
• Ability to build effective relationships with learners and community partners.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Willingness to work towards a teaching qualification.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess high-quality community learning sessions tailored to learner needs.
• Deliver entry-level and community learning programmes including English, maths, digital skills, employability and wellbeing.
• Embed English, maths and digital skills within learning programmes where appropriate.
• Support learners to develop confidence, wellbeing and progression through learning approaches.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs and include those with additional support needs.
• Use assessment and learner reviews to monitor progress and celebrate achievement.
• Work with community partners to engage new learners and participation in learning opportunities.
• Attend community events and promote ACL courses to local residents.
• Promote safeguarding, British Values, equality, diversity and inclusion in all delivery environments.
• Collaborate with the Community Engagement Officer and Sector Lead to support recruitment and progression.
• Contribute to curriculum planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
• Participate in professional development and reflective practice.
