Job summary

Essex County Council's Adult Community Learning is seeking a passionate Community Trainer to deliver inclusive learning that helps adults gain skills, confidence and wellbeing, and progress into further study or work.

You'll plan, deliver and assess sessions across Essex, embedding English, maths and digital skills, and work with partners to recruit learners and promote ACL courses. A driving licence is preferred due to area mobility.

Qualifications

• Holds, or is willing to work towards, a teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS or equivalent).
• Experience delivering learning, training, coaching or support to adults.
• Strong understanding of inclusive and learner-centred teaching practice.
• Ability to build effective relationships with learners and community partners.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess high-quality community learning sessions tailored to learner needs and community priorities.
• Deliver a range of entry-level and community learning programmes, including English, maths, digital skills, employability and wellbeing courses.
• Embed English, maths and digital skills within learning programmes where appropriate.
• Support learners to develop confidence, wellbeing and progression through creative and flexible learning approaches.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with additional support needs.
• Use assessment and learner reviews to monitor progress and celebrate learner achievement.
• Work collaboratively with community partners to engage new learners and support participation in learning opportunities.
• Attend community events and outreach activities to promote ACL courses and engage with local residents.
• Promote safeguarding, Prevent, British Values, equality, diversity and inclusion in all delivery environments.
• Collaborate with the Community Engagement Officer and Sector Lead to support learner recruitment, engagement and progression.
• Contribute to curriculum planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
• Participate in continuous professional development and reflective practice to maintain effective and current teaching skills.
