A leading organization focused on climate action is seeking a Community Development Officer to support community-led projects across the Highland area. This role involves networking, collaboration, and travel throughout the region to empower local communities in their climate initiatives. Ideal candidates will have experience in community engagement and a passion for climate action.
The Highlands & Islands Climate Hub is fully funded by the Scottish Government and is part of a network of Climate Action Hubs across Scotland. It aims to support communities in developing local solutions for the transition to net zero and climate resilience through empowerment and capacity building.
Operating since September 2021, the Hub is a membership organization supporting communities across Highland and the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland. Its vision is to facilitate collective climate action, supporting a just transition to net zero and fostering wider change.
JOB PURPOSE
The Community Development Officer will contribute to the successful delivery of the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub CIC. The role involves supporting communities to collaborate, network, and develop community-led climate action projects. It includes signposting, networking, and proactively connecting people and communities.
LOCATION
The role supports communities within the Highland Local Authority area. You can be based anywhere in Highland but must reside within the Highland Council ward area. The role involves home/remote working and travel throughout the region.
The Hub conducts regular staff meetups at Inverness or Thurso offices, and attendance at national Hub Gatherings is expected.
Travel within Highland is essential, with occasional travel to national events, possibly involving overnight stays. All travel and accommodation costs are covered. Reliable public transport or a valid driver’s license is required, with willingness to include business use on insurance.
A PVG check is required and must be passed.
