Job summary

THIRD SECTOR LEADERS KIRKLEES is hiring two Community Development Advisors (Casual, Part-Time) for up to 5 hours per week across hybrid locations in Huddersfield. The roles are 5/6 month contracts with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and coordinate a caseload of participants with health barriers.
• Provide one-to-one guidance and signposting to tailored pathways.
• Support participants in rebuilding routines and preparing for work, study, or volunteering.
• Coordinate group activities and peer support sessions in community venues.
• Collaborate with local healthcare providers and voluntary groups for wrap-around support.
• Maintain confidential records for monitoring and reporting.

About the Role

We are seeking two compassionate, self-motivated Development Advisors to support local
residents in overcoming physical and mental health barriers that prevent them from entering
employment, volunteering, or returning to education. Operating in a community-led, non-profit
environment, you will work one-to-one with participants to build confidence, manage personal
challenges, and access tailored pathways toward positive life goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and coordinate a caseload of participants dealing with physical or mental health barriers, delivering personalized one-to-one guidance and signposting.
• Support clients through practical challenges, including rebuilding daily routines, boosting self-confidence, and preparing for work, study, or volunteering. (Activities list them)
• Coordinate and support the facilitation of small-group activities and peer support sessions in community venues across Huddersfield.
• Collaborate with local healthcare providers, voluntary groups, and referral networks to connect participants with wrap-around support services.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records of client progress to fulfil project monitoring and grant reporting requirements.
• A DBS checks will be required for these posts.

Person Specification

Essential

• Proven experience supporting individuals who face mental health, physical health, or personal barriers to inclusion.
• Strong interpersonal and active listening skills with an empathetic, non-judgmental approach.
• Knowledge of local community assets, health services, and support networks across Kirklees/Huddersfield.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively across a hybrid work environment.

Desirable

• Prior experience in community-led, grant-funded, or voluntary sector delivery.
• Background in peer support facilitation, life coaching, or signposting services.
• Lived experience of overcoming health barriers or supporting family members through recovery.

Additional Information

This role is project-funded and performance-based, with targets in place to ensure support reaches as many clients as possible. You may also work within your own networks, including friends, family, or community contacts, where appropriate. As an organisation delivering multiple grant-funded projects, existing staff are prioritised for additional part-time opportunities that arise.
