Job summary

Community Kitchen at Community Shop Group is seeking a dedicated Chef Educator to lead culinary initiatives and drive positive change at Beechwood, Birkenhead. You will produce nutritious meals and support delivery of community programmes that benefit local members and partners.

You will work with stakeholders, lead a high-performing team, and uphold Health, Safety & Environmental policies while engaging in cross-functional collaboration to maximise social impact.

Qualifications

  • A strong culinary background is essential.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Catering or equivalent is required.
  • Food hygiene level 2 or above is expected.
  • Knowledge of HACCP principles is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver Community Kitchen's social impact and culinary development programmes.
  • Promote and support local communities through engaging activities.
  • Assist retail and hub in driving membership to broaden Community Kitchen's social impact.
  • Deliver in-house training and development programmes.
  • Collaborate with organisations across sectors to advance social impact opportunities.
  • Ensure Health, Safety & Environmental policies are upheld.

About The Role

Community Kitchen is seeking a dedicated Chef Educator to lead our culinary initiatives and drive positive change within our Beechwood store in Birkenhead.

You will need to be able to think on your feet and use your culinary expertise to produce freshly cooked, nutritious meals. But also, it is essential that you will be confident and supportive in the delivery of our Community Kitchen programmes and community-based initiatives that align in response to your community's needs. You will need to be ready and willing to create positive changes in our members and to question and rethink concepts, assumptions and practises.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders you will be able to demonstrate your leadership, initiative and ability to work effectively in a capacity that reflects Community shop's values.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Ability to work with the various challenges of daily changing, surplus food stocks and be able to create nutritious meals.
  • Lead and deliver Community Kitchen's Social Impact and culinary development programmes including the promotion and support of local communities through engaging activities
  • Assist retail and hub in driving membership to broaden Community Kitchen's Social Impact
  • The delivery of in-house training and development programmes
  • Work closely with other organisations in the wider not-for-profit, social enterprise, public and private sectors - with the aim of taking forward new social impact opportunities that maximise the synergistic and financial benefits of joint working to benefit local people and members.
  • Build understanding within the social sector and beyond Community Shop to help in the development of our social impact, business offer.
  • Ensure that all Health, Safety & Environmental policies and practises are upheld
  • Engage your team both within your department and within other departments to support cross-functional and positive working relationships
  • Employ a supportive and high performing culture with consistent delivery, through excellent leadership and motivation, that fully utilises and develops your teams' skills and capabilities
  • Keep up to date with information relevant to your department and cascade this accordingly to your wider department teams
Requirements
Essential:
  • A strong culinary background
  • NVQ level 2 in Catering ( or similar qualifications )
  • Food hygiene level 2 or above
  • Knowledge of HACCP
Desired and advantageous:
  • Experience delivering effective cooking / training programmes
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals
  • Experience gained within a community-based setting

Hours

07:30-5:00pm Monday-Friday (Although occasional flexibility may be required)

Salary

£28,868 per annum
