About the team you'll be part of

The Communications team at Ofcom engages with the public, media, and colleagues to enhance understanding of Ofcom's work. The team implements a multi-channel communications strategy to build trust, inform stakeholders, and support organizational objectives.

The purpose and scope of the role

The Communications Associate supports the delivery of high-quality external and internal communications, including media relations, social media, and internal communications. Responsibilities include crafting compelling content, engaging with journalists and social media audiences, and keeping Ofcom's employees informed and inspired.

Your Key Responsibilities

Media Relations:

  • Assist the media team in responding to journalist inquiries and managing Ofcom's reputation.
  • Draft media responses, press releases, and briefing documents.
  • Monitor media coverage and produce summaries and insights.
  • Identify proactive opportunities aligned with news and topical events to promote Ofcom's work.
  • Manage communications planning activities.

Social Media:

  • Contribute to planning, drafting, and publishing content across Ofcom's social channels, ensuring clarity and engagement.
  • Monitor social media trends and engagement, flagging opportunities and risks.
  • Support multimedia content development, including graphics and videos.
  • Monitor social media performance and online mentions.

Internal Communications:

  • Support internal engagement initiatives that inform employees about Ofcom's work, culture, and priorities.
  • Create compelling content for internal platforms like the intranet (Hive).
  • Assist in planning and delivering internal events and activities.
  • Maintain and update internal communication channels to ensure accessibility and engagement.

The skills, knowledge, and experience needed

  • Basic understanding of media relations, social media, and internal communications.
  • Familiarity with social media management and content creation tools.
  • Experience in drafting press releases, social media posts, or internal communications is a plus.
  • Experience with multimedia tools (video editing, design platforms) is advantageous.
  • Articulating Ideas: Strong writing skills for diverse audiences and channels.
  • Harmonising work: Ability to work in fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Executing Plans: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Owning Accountabilities: Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • No mandatory qualifications; relevant experience and skills are prioritized.
