Job summary

Workchain is recruiting on behalf of a UK manufacturing business to appoint an experienced Commodity Buyer in Oxfordshire. The role leads a specialist commodity group, ensuring material availability and driving supplier performance to support production and business objectives.

You will manage supplier relationships, place orders, maintain data in SAP, read engineering drawings, and work with internal teams to maintain an efficient and cost-effective supply chain through proactive

Qualifications

• Previous purchasing or procurement experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong ERP system experience, preferably SAP.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering data.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Self-motivated, resilient, and able to work effectively under pressure.
• Team player with a positive and professional attitude.

Responsibilities

• Place purchase orders in a timely manner to support production demand.
• Ensure materials and components are delivered in line with required schedules.
• Manage and maintain supplier information within the ERP system.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance and implement continuous improvement activities.
• Keep purchase order delivery dates accurate and up to date within SAP.
• Resolve supply chain issues proactively to minimise business disruption.
• Support wider purchasing and supply chain activities as required.
