Job summary

Michael Page is recruiting an experienced Buyer for a UK manufacturing and engineering business. You will manage a portfolio of suppliers, raise POs based on MRP, and ensure on-time delivery of materials while supporting supplier onboarding and transitions.

This varied role covers supplier development, commercial improvements, tender support, and KPI reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation, Excel skills, experience with MRP/ERP, and a proactive, commercially minded approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of suppliers and raise purchase orders based on MRP requirements.
• Ensure on-time delivery of materials and expedite orders when needed.
• Develop relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Support competitive tenders, sourcing activity and commercial improvement projects.
• Identify supply chain risks and mitigate potential disruption with the wider team.
• Assist onboarding of new suppliers and transitions.
• Resolve supplier issues related to delivery, pricing, and terms.
• Support New Product Introduction and related supply chain requirements.
• Monitor and report supplier performance and purchasing data.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement across purchasing activities.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Buyer to join an established manufacturing business, managing a portfolio of suppliers and supporting the procurement of production materials and services. The role will combine day-to-day purchasing with supplier management, commercial improvement projects and supply chain risk mitigation.

Description

As the Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing materials, goods and services while managing a portfolio of suppliers and ensuring requirements are delivered in line with business needs.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing a portfolio of suppliers and raising purchase orders based on MRP requirements.
• Ensuring the on-time delivery of materials and expediting purchase orders where required.
• Developing strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Supporting competitive tenders, sourcing activity and commercial improvement projects.
• Identifying supply chain risks and working with the wider team to mitigate potential disruption.
• Supporting new supplier onboarding and supplier transitions.
• Resolving supplier issues relating to delivery, pricing and commercial terms.
• Supporting New Product Introduction and associated supply chain requirements.
• Monitoring and reporting supplier performance, KPIs and purchasing data.
• Identifying opportunities for process and continuous improvement across purchasing activities.

Profile

The successful Buyer will ideally have:

• Previous experience within a buying, purchasing or supply chain role.
• Strong experience using MRP/ERP systems within a purchasing environment.
• Experience managing suppliers and building effective commercial relationships.
• Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and confidence working with purchasing data.
• A proactive, commercially minded approach with strong problem-solving skills.
• Experience within manufacturing, engineering or production would be highly advantageous.
• CIPS membership/qualification or equivalent experience would be beneficial.
