Job summary

NRL is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical / Process) to join a major infrastructure project in Bridgwater, Somerset. You will plan, prepare and execute commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested and handed over safely and efficiently.

Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will work with project teams, contractors and stakeholders to meet safety, quality and performance standards, while supervising contractors and maintaining rigorous health and safety

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical and process engineering knowledge.
• Previous commissioning, testing or site-engineering experience.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, SharePoint and Adobe applications.

Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical / Process)

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Salary: £65,000 per annum

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Working Pattern: Site-Based

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical / Process) to join a major infrastructure project based in Bridgwater, Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of commissioning activities on one of the UK's most significant engineering and construction programmes. Working as part of a dedicated commissioning team, you will be responsible for planning, preparing and executing commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested, verified and handed over safely and efficiently. Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will work closely with project teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure commissioning activities are completed to the highest standards of safety, quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review and maintain commissioning documentation and test specifications.
• Plan and take ownership of allocated commissioning test programmes.
• Lead and support site commissioning and testing activities.
• Supervise contractors to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.
• Analyse test results and support the resolution of technical issues.
• Provide technical expertise to support project milestones and delivery objectives.
• Support contractual testing, verification and acceptance activities.
• Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and quality throughout all commissioning activities.

About You

• Degree qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Strong mechanical and process engineering knowledge.
• Previous experience in commissioning, testing or site engineering environments.
• Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint and Adobe applications.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working collaboratively with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
• A proactive, delivery-focused approach with the ability to work independently.
• Experience operating within robust health, safety and quality cultures.
• Working knowledge of Permit to Work (PTW) and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) systems within heavy industrial environments.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within the UK power generation, energy or nuclear sector.
• Knowledge of UK Electrical and Mechanical Safety Rules.
• Familiarity with Switch, Fieldview and Navisworks software.
• Previous experience working on major infrastructure or large-scale engineering projects.
