The Westin London City is seeking a motivated Commis Chef to join our busy kitchen team at 60 Upper Thames Street, London. You will help prepare and present breakfast offerings and support the kitchen brigade to maintain high standards.

We hire on personality and potential, with responsibilities including food preparation, safety, hygiene and supporting the Sous Chef. Previous commis level experience and a passion for quality are valued.

Qualifications

• Understand and adhere to the company’s rules and regulations on policies such as fire, hygiene, health & safety and licensing.
• Ensure a safe working environment by identifying hazards and taking corrective action.
• Be flexible and able to assist the Sous Chef and other kitchen brigade members.
• A team player who thrives in a busy kitchen environment.
• Passion for food and willingness to learn.
• Previous commis-level experience in a kitchen.
• Understanding of quality control and kitchen standards.
• Experience in a similar role in a 5-star hotel or a desire to learn.

Responsabilités

• Set standards for preparation and presentation of the breakfast offering.
• Engage with guests regarding the breakfast service.
• Manage breakfast service and uphold agreed standards.
• Carry out other tasks requested by management to keep the business running smoothly.
• Assist other kitchen sections in production, service or cleaning as workload requires.
• Maintain consistent quality control of all food prepared and cooked.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COMMIS CHEF AT THE WESTIN LONDON CITY HOTEL

What you’ll be doing…

• Set the standards with regards to preparation and presentation of the food offering.
• Engaging and communicating with guests regarding the breakfast offering.
• Manage your breakfast service and ensure agreed standards are achieved
• To carry out any other reasonable task requested by a member of the management team, to enable the business to run efficiently and smoothly
• To assist other sections of the kitchen in the production and service of food or the cleaning down of the section as and when required due to the workload
• To maintain constant quality control of all food prepared and cooked ensuring it is to the Head Chef’s and Restaurant standards.

To succeed in the role of Commis Chef, you will need the following qualities and skills.

• Understand and adhere to the company’s rules and regulations on all policies and procedures such as fire, hygiene, health & safety and licensing regulations.
• Ensure a safe working environment identifying potential hazards and taking corrective action.
• To be flexible in your approach, and able to assist the Sous Chef and any other members of the kitchen brigade when required
• A team player who thrives in the hustle and bustle of a busy kitchen department
• Someone who is passionate about food and willing to learn
• Previous experience in a similar role, at commis level
• An understanding of quality control and kitchen standards
• Experience in a similar role in a 5 star hotel or a desire to learn
