Job summary

Courtyard by Marriott Exeter Sandy Park is seeking a commis chef to join our kitchen team and support daily operations. You will assist with meal preparation, maintain high standards, and learn through on‑the‑job training in a two-venue setup.

Ideally, you will hold an NVQ Level 2 in catering with at least 1 year of related experience; no supervisory duties are required. The role offers a 40-hour week at £13.19 per hour, meals, pension, and development opportunities.

• Related work experience is desirable but not necessary beyond 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Join the kitchen team as a commis chef and support daily kitchen operations.
• Receive training and development to progress in culinary skills.
• Follow safety, security and cleanliness policies; maintain professional appearance and conduct.
• Participate in food preparation for two culinary offerings and events.
• Assist with stock, mise en place and basic food handling.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the team as a commis chef. Ideally someone who has completed their level 2 NVQ in catering. You will be supported in your journey as a proffessional chef with training and development.

Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; complete safety training and certifications. Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets. Speak with others using clear and professional language. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; support team to reach common goals; listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience.
