Job summary

Oculus Legal Group in Birmingham seeks a Commercial Tech Contracts Associate (1–5 PQE) to join a leading national practice. You will work within a high-calibre team on major technology-related transactions and everyday contracting, developing expertise in AI, SaaS, data, and procurement.

The role features no individual fee-earning target, a strong training culture, and exposure to both strategic projects and day-to-day tech contracting work. This is a fantastic Midlands opportunity.

Qualifications

• 1–5 PQE required
• Experience in commercial tech contracts is preferred
• In-depth understanding of data privacy and GDPR advisable

Responsibilities

• Work on data protection and UK GDPR compliance programmes
• Handle data processing, sharing and international data transfer arrangements
• Advise on cybersecurity, data breaches and incident response matters
• Contribute to AI governance and regulatory compliance
• Support technology procurement and SaaS/cloud agreements

COMMERCIAL TECH CONTRACTS ASSOCIATE | 1–5 PQE | BIRMINGHAM | £60,000–£78,000 + BONUS | NO FEE-EARNING TARGET

I’m currently working with a leading national law firm looking to appoint a Commercial Tech Contracts Associate (1–5 PQE) to its highly regarded Birmingham team.

One of the biggest differentiators? There is no individual fee-earning target.

Instead, the focus is on delivering high-quality work, developing technically and commercially, building strong client relationships and becoming a well-rounded lawyer.

It’s a genuinely high-calibre team offering excellent quality work, a collaborative culture and exposure to both major strategic projects and day-to-day commercial and technology contracting.

The work includes:

• Data protection and UK GDPR compliance programmes
• Data processing, data sharing and international data transfer arrangements
• Cybersecurity, data breaches and incident response matters
• AI governance, emerging technologies and regulatory compliance
• Digital marketing, e-Privacy and PECR compliance
• Technology, outsourcing and managed service agreements
• Software licensing, SaaS, cloud and technology procurement projects
• Strategic corporate and technology transactions

This could be particularly interesting for a Commercial, Technology, Data or IT lawyer looking to develop further within a specialist practice, with plenty of exposure to emerging areas including AI, SaaS, data and technology procurement.
