Job summary

Grant Thornton UK LLP is seeking an experienced audit professional to take overall ownership of a portfolio of complex engagements, shaping audit strategy and guiding senior staff. You will act as the primary escalation point on technical and risk matters, nurturing talent and maintaining client trust across services.

The role emphasizes leadership in business development, profitability oversight, and collaboration with Partners to uphold standards and drive growth within the UK practice.

Qualifications

• ACA or ACCA qualification with substantial post-qualification experience in audit.
• Experience managing a portfolio and developing junior team members.
• Track record of contributing to business development is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Holds overall ownership for a portfolio of complex or higher risk audit engagements, reporting directly to the Engagement Leader or Partner.
• Sets the audit strategy for engagements, exercising significant professional judgement on the most technically complex or contentious areas.
• Acts as the senior escalation point for the audit team on technical, client and risk matters, consulting with Partners and National Assurance Services where needed.
• Has overall accountability for portfolio profitability, WIP and billing, and manages resourcing decisions across multiple engagements.
• Leads on recruitment, coaching and development of Managers and Assistant Managers, and plays an active role in performance management and appraisals.
• Owns senior client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and identifying opportunities to expand services across the client relationship.
• Plays a visible role in business development, including leading on proposals, pitches and networking to help grow the practice.
• Reviews and signs off on the quality of audit files across the portfolio ahead of Partner review.
• Keeps clients informed of new standards and regulatory change, and advises on the implications for their business.
• Champions the firm's risk management and quality standards across the team, and is a point of escalation for whistleblowing or integrity concerns.
• Maintains and grows a network across the firm to identify opportunities and prevent duplication of effort.
• Acts with integrity and in line with our organisational values.

What we are looking for

• ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent), with substantial post qualification experience in audit, including proven experience managing a portfolio and developing junior team members. Track record of contributing to business development is desirable.
