Job summary

Grant Thornton is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to take overall responsibility for planning, executing and completing audits for diverse clients in the UK. You will act as the primary day-to-day contact, applying detailed knowledge of ISAs, UK GAAP and IFRS while following the firm’s audit methodology.

You will identify and evaluate complex audit risks, manage budgets and timelines, and coach a team to deliver high-quality work.

Qualifications

• ACA or ACCA qualification with post-qualification experience in audit.
• Strong technical grounding in ISAs, UK GAAP and IFRS.
• Proven experience managing engagement teams and client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Takes overall responsibility for planning, executing and completing audit engagements, acting as primary client contact.
• Applies detailed technical knowledge of ISAs, UK GAAP and IFRS, and the firm’s audit methodology.
• Identifies and evaluates complex audit risks, designs audit strategy and ensures defensible approaches under review.
• Manages engagement budgets, timelines and profitability, escalating overruns and agreeing scope changes with the client as they arise.
• Leads, coaches and develops a team of Assistant Managers and Associates, delegating effectively and reviewing their work to a high standard.
• Builds and maintains strong client relationships, seen as a trusted advisor beyond just an auditor.
• Identifies and helps convert cross service line opportunities benefiting the wider practice.
• Reviews financial statements to ensure compliance with legislation and disclosure requirements.
• Consults with Engagement Leaders and specialists on judgemental or high risk areas.

• Applies detailed technical knowledge of ISAs, UK GAAP and/or IFRS, and the firm’s audit methodology, and is a point of reference for the team on technical queries
• Identifies and evaluates complex audit risks, designs the audit strategy and ensures the approach is proportionate and defensible under review
• Manages engagement budgets, timelines and profitability, escalating overruns and agreeing scope changes with the client as they arise
• Leads, coaches and develops a team of Assistant Managers and Associates, delegating effectively and reviewing their work to a high standard
• Builds and maintains strong client relationships, being seen by the client as a trusted advisor rather than just an auditor
• Identifies and helps convert cross service line opportunities, contributing to the growth of the wider practice
• Reviews financial statements and ensures compliance with relevant legislation and disclosure requirements
• Consults appropriately with Engagement Leaders and specialists, including Valuations and National Assurance Services, on judgemental or high risk areas
• Contributes to proposals and business development activity as required
• Adheres to the firm’s risk management policies, including whistleblowing and quality reporting processes, and consults with colleagues on any concerns
• Maintains ongoing professional development and completes mandatory training relevant to the role
• Acts with integrity and in line with our organisational values

What we are looking for

• ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent), with post qualification experience gained within an audit environment. Strong technical grounding and demonstrable experience managing engagement teams and client relationships.
