Parker Franklyn is helping a Leeds-based independent commercial insurance broker recruit an Account Handler to service an SME portfolio and learn more about increasingly complex risks. Enjoy working in commercial insurance but feel ready for something a little more challenging?

Pperhaps you've spent the last couple of years dealing with SME clients, built a good understanding of commercial insurance and are now wondering what the next step looks like.

You don't necessarily want to become an Account Executive or move into management. You'd just like the opportunity to learn more, deal with more interesting clients and continue developing your career. If that sounds familiar, this could be worth a conversation.

We're working with a highly regarded independent commercial insurance brokerage in Leeds that's looking to add an Account Handler to its established team. It's a business with an excellent reputation for looking after its clients, strong relationships with insurers and, importantly, experienced people who are happy to share their knowledge.

What's different about this opportunity?

Initially, you'll be working alongside experienced colleagues, helping to manage an established portfolio of commercial clients.

As you become more comfortable, you'll have the opportunity to get involved in larger, more complex risks than you may have previously encountered. You'll be supported throughout, with experienced Brokers and Account Handlers available to offer guidance, explain the more technical aspects and help you develop your knowledge. Over time, you'll take greater ownership of client relationships, with the opportunity to attend client meetings and become more involved in the advice and service they're receiving.

And there's no predetermined career path you have to follow. If you enjoy the technical side of insurance, there's plenty of opportunity to develop those skills. If you prefer building relationships and working directly with clients, the business will encourage that too. It's more about finding out what you're good at, what you enjoy and helping you develop in that direction.

What are they looking for?

Ideally, you'll have at least a couple of years' experience as a Commercial Account Handler, perhaps working predominantly with SME clients. You should have a reasonable understanding of commercial insurance and be comfortable dealing with clients, insurers and the general servicing of an account. However, they're not expecting you to know everything. More important is your attitude. They want someone who asks questions, takes an interest in understanding their clients' businesses and is keen to improve their knowledge. You'll also need to be personable and comfortable building relationships, particularly as you'll have the opportunity to meet clients face-to-face as your role develops.
