Job summary

The Environment Agency is seeking a Principal Regulatory Officer to lead regulatory delivery across COMAH sites in England. You will supervise complex compliance activities, manage environmental and reputational risk, and work with internal networks and partner organisations to ensure a consistent national approach.

You will lead site inspections, investigations and enforcement, provide expert input to national investigations, and help shape COMAH regulatory strategy.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the COMAH regime and related regulatory duties.
  • Ability to build relationships with partner organisations and stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading teams and directing regulatory work across complex sites.
  • Commitment to people development, training, and coaching others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site inspections, investigations and enforcement for COMAH sites.
  • Provide expert input to national investigations and regulatory strategy.
  • Manage quality, performance and workload within the team; workforce planning.
  • Collaborate with Competent Authority partners to ensure a consistent national approach.
