Job summary

Stewarts Christchurch is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Manager for our busy coffee shop in the garden centre. You will support the Coffee Shop Manager, lead a team, and ensure outstanding customer experiences in a hands-on role.

You will have supervisory experience, strong leadership and excellent communication. The role includes weekends and seasonal peaks, with generous staff perks in a family-run business, including staff discounts and parking.

Qualifications

• At least one year's supervisory or team leader experience.
• Strong leadership to motivate, coach and develop a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks and stay calm under pressure.
• Proactive, hands-on approach to work.
• Good commercial awareness with understanding of sales, costs and stock control.
• Confidence using tills, cash handling procedures and basic computer systems.
• Good understanding of food hygiene and health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support the Coffee Shop Manager with the day-to-day operation of the coffee shop.
• Lead, motivate and develop the team to deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
• Take responsibility for the coffee shop in the Manager's absence, ensuring smooth operations.
• Supervise daily service, ensuring food and drinks are prepared and presented to high standards.
• Coach, train and mentor team members, helping develop skills and product knowledge.
• Assist with recruitment, induction and ongoing training of new colleagues.
• Prepare staff rotas, manage staffing levels and support with absence management.
• Monitor team performance, provide feedback and foster a positive working culture.
• Ensure cleanliness, food hygiene and presentation are maintained; comply with safety procedures.
• Monitor stock levels, place orders and minimise waste.
• Handle customer enquiries and feedback professionally; resolve issues quickly.
• Support planning and delivery of seasonal promotions, events and offers.
• Assist with cash handling, daily banking and end-of-day procedures.
• Be willing to work flexibly and provide hands-on support as needed.
