Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Coastal Scientist for Bristol, Croydon or Newcastle. You will join our Ports, Coastal and Offshore team to develop coastal projects, and grow skills in project management, business development, and sustainability.

You will work on coastal erosion, flood risk feasibility, and climate risk assessments, with opportunities in GIS, numerical modelling, and stakeholder engagement. A Masters in Coastal Science or Oceanography is required, with <12 months’ relevant experience; the company offers training and a structured early careers program.

Qualifications

• Masters degree (obtained no earlier than 2025) or expected, in a coastal/oceanography field.
• Eligible disciplines include Coastal science or Oceanography.
• Less than 12 months of relevant experience (placements excluded).
• Strong interest in coastal processes, climate resilience, and marine engineering.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to coastal erosion and flood risk feasibility studies.
• Develop coastal management plans, strategies and business cases.
• Support design and planning for offshore and marine renewables including hazard mapping.
• Perform GIS mapping and coastal data interpretation; run coastal numerical modelling.
• Engage with stakeholders and support climate resilience assessments.
