Job summary

Bennett & Game Recruitment Ltd in Ilminster, Somerset, are seeking an experienced CNC Turner / Setter Operator for a permanent night shift. You will set and operate SPDT turning machinery to manufacture ultra-precision components and interpret drawings and specifications.

The role offers a 20% shift premium, overtime paid at 1.5x after 39 hours and 2x on Sundays/Bank Holidays, plus 25 days holiday and a company pension. SPDT experience is advantageous but not essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating CNC turning machinery.
• G-code or machine-specific controls programming desirable.
• Strong understanding of tolerances and surface finishes.
• Experience with precision materials is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Setting and operating CNC Single Point Diamond Turning machinery.
• Manufacture ultra-precision components to tight tolerances.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD data and surface finish specs.
• Select and handle diamond tooling; verify quality with metrology.
• Adjust machine parameters to optimise quality, accuracy and cycle times.
• Carry out first-off, in-process and final inspections; maintain records.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and fault diagnosis.

Location: Ilminster, Somerset

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience + 20% shift premium

Hours: Monday-Thursday 10:00pm-6:00am, Friday 10:00pm-5:00am

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Bennett & Game are currently working with a leading specialist engineering and optics manufacturer who are seeking an experienced CNC Turner / CNC Setter Operator to join their Ilminster facility on a permanent night shift. This is an excellent opportunity for a CNC Turner with experience in precision engineering, with training available for candidates who have a strong CNC turning background but limited experience with Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT).

CNC Turner - Role & Responsibilities

• Setting and operating CNC Single Point Diamond Turning machinery
• Manufacturing ultra-precision components to extremely tight tolerances
• Interpreting engineering drawings, CAD data and surface finish specifications
• Selecting and handling specialist diamond tooling
• Achieving sub-micron tolerances and high-quality surface finishes
• Carrying out first-off, in-process and final inspections
• Using precision metrology equipment to verify component quality
• Adjusting machine parameters to optimise quality, accuracy and cycle times
• Carrying out routine machine maintenance and fault diagnosis
• Maintaining accurate production and inspection records
• Working closely with Engineering, Metrology and Quality teams

CNC Turner - Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience operating CNC turning machinery
• Experience with Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) is advantageous but not essential
• CNC programming experience, including G-code or machine-specific controls, is desirable
• Strong understanding of engineering tolerances and surface finishes
• Experience working with precision materials such as aluminium, copper or nickel-based materials would be beneficial
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach
• Comfortable working independently within a clean and controlled manufacturing environment
