Job summary

Pertemps North Midlands in Tamworth is seeking an experienced CNC setter/operator to programme, set and run turning and milling machines to produce high-precision components.

You will interpret drawings, create or modify programmes using Alphacam CAD/CAM, and work with Puma SMX2600S and Puma 3100LSY machines under Fanuc31iB5+ control, with strong attention to detail required.

Qualifications

• Alphacam CAD/CAM experience.
• Puma SMX2600S and Puma 3100LSY experience.
• Fanuc31iB5+ CNC control programming experience.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and operating CNC machines, loading workpieces, selecting tools, and setting parameters.
• Interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances for each part.
• Creating or modifying CNC programmes using CAD/CAM or manual programs.
• Monitoring machine performance and addressing issues during machining.
• Ensuring finished parts meet required specifications.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: £45,760 – £49,920 per annum (competitive, dependent on qualifications and experience).

• Basic hours: 40 hrs per week (Monday to Friday 07:00‑15:30, 30‑minute unpaid lunch each day)

Purpose of the role

This role offers the opportunity to programme, set and operate advanced CNC turning and milling machinery, producing high‑quality precision components to exact engineering standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Setting up and operating CNC machines, including loading workpieces, selecting tools, and setting machine parameters.
• Following and interpreting engineering drawings, and understanding the specifications and tolerances required for each part.
• Creating and modifying CNC programmes, using CAD software or manual programming to generate the necessary instructions for the machine.
• Monitoring machine performance and making adjustments, identifying and addressing any issues that may arise during the machining process.
• Ensuring quality and accuracy of finished parts and verifying that they meet the required specifications.

Preferred requirements and skills

• Previous experience in CNC programming using Alphacam CAD/CAM system.
• Experience with Puma SMX2600S CNC lathe and Puma 3100LSY multi‑task turning machines.
• Ability to program, set and operate using a Fanuc31iB5+ CNC control.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to identify and resolve issues.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
• Self‑motivated with a can‑do attitude.

Qualifications and education requirements

• GSCE Mathematics.
• Good level of basic English.
