Job summary

Pertemps Tamworth Commercial is recruiting a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to programme, set up and run advanced turning and milling machines in our Tamworth workshop, producing high‑precision components to exact engineering drawings using Alphacam CAD CAM and Fanuc control.

This permanent, day-shift role offers a competitive salary up to £49,920, with overtime, a contributory pension, private medical insurance, 24 days’ leave plus bank holidays, life assurance and a cycle to work scheme.

Qualifications

Experience in CNC programming essential.
Alphacam CAD CAM experience essential.
Experience with Puma SMX2600S and Puma 3100LSY essential.
Able to program, set and operate using a Fanuc31iB5 control.
Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to identify and resolve issues.
Able to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC machines, load workpieces, select tools and set parameters.
Interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
Create/modify CNC programmes using CAD CAM or manual methods.
Monitor machine performance and adjust as needed.
Ensure finished parts meet specifications and quality standards.

Basic hours: 40 hrs per week. Monday to Friday 07.00 to 15:30, (30 minutes unpaid lunch break each day).

Purpose of the role

This role offers the opportunity to programme, set and operate advanced CNC turning and milling machinery, producing high-quality precision components to exact engineering standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

Setting up and operating CNC machines, which includes loading workpieces, selecting tools, and setting machine parameters.
Following and interpreting engineering drawings, understanding the specifications and tolerances required for each part.
Creating and modifying CNC programmes, using CAD software or manual programming to create the necessary instructions for the machine.
Monitoring machine performance and making adjustments, identifying and addressing any issues that may arise during the machining process.
Ensuring quality and accuracy of finished parts and verifying that they meet the required specifications.

Preferred requirements and skills

Previous experience in CNC programming using Alphacam CAD CAM system is essential
Experience in using Puma SMX2600S CNC LATHE and Puma 3100LSY multitask turning machines is essential
Ability to program set and operate using a Fanuc31iB5 plus CNC control
Strong understanding of engineering drawings
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to identify and resolve issues
Able to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects
Self-motivated with a can-do attitude
