Job summary

Hudson Shribman is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist (programmer) to join a modern, well-equipped workshop in the South of the UK. You will programme, set and operate CNC milling machines, reading drawings and maintaining quality documentation to ensure right-first-time production.

The role demands hands-on experience with 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC mills, Heidenhain controls, and the ability to work to tight tolerances on large components.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship preferred; strong background in programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines.
• Proven ability to programme, set and operate 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machinery.
• Experience with Heidenhain controls; Fanuc experience is advantageous.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and maintain quality documentation.
• Experience machining large components and working to tight tolerances.

Location: South Type: Permanent Onsite

We are urgently seeking an experienced CNC Milling Programmer / Setter / Operator to join a modern, well-structured manufacturing environment. This role is suited to someone with a strong background in precision machining who can programme, set, and operate CNC milling machines safely and efficiently to achieve right-first-time results.

You will be joining an inclusive, collaborative team within a professional workshop housing state-of-the-art CNC machinery, laser equipment, and CMM inspection. The business supports a diverse range of high-tech sectors including medical, aerospace, semiconductor, nuclear, and other scientific industries.

Key Accountabilities

• Programme, set, and operate CNC milling machines
• Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure accurate manufacture
• Create and maintain layout sheets detailing tooling, set-ups, and machine parameters
• Work independently to high standards while meeting production deadlines
• Inspect and qualify own work using a range of measuring equipment
• Document quality results in line with company procedures
• Support and train colleagues where required
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment, adhering to PPE requirements
• Contribute to continuous improvement through time- and cost-saving initiatives

Qualifications & Experience

• Time-served apprenticeship preferred (not essential)
• Ideally several years' experience programming and operating 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machines
• Strong proficiency with Heidenhain controls (Fanuc experience advantageous)
• Ability to take responsibility for own quality, including use of MTE and completion of quality documentation
• Previous experience with Doosan, Matsuura, and/or Mazak machines
• Ability to machine to tight tolerances (circa 20 microns)
• Experience machining large components up to 2.5 metres
• Overhead crane and manual handling training beneficial (training can be provided)
• Strong communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude
• High focus on quality, productivity, and continuous improvement
• Flexible and adaptable to support a changing business environment
• Strong work ethic essential

Benefits Package

Salary: up to £50,000 per annum (approx. 39-hour week)

Holidays: 23 days + 8 bank holidays

Pension: 4% matched scheme (post-probation - 3 months)
