Job summary

The University of Manchester seeks an experienced Manufacturing Technician to produce precision components using a wide range of machine tools, including CNC and conventional equipment, in one of its mechanical workshops. The role supports teaching and research by manufacturing parts from engineering drawings and CAM data generated from SolidWorks models.

The position involves working on one-off components or small batches, with strong emphasis on meeting deadlines and quality.

Qualifications

Experienced CNC machinist with lathe, mill, and machining centers.
Experience operating conventional turning and milling machines.
Skilled at producing precision components to tight tolerances.
ONC/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Apprentice trained.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

Produce precision components and assemblies using machine tools including CNC and conventional machines.
Manufacture parts from engineering drawings and CAM data generated from SolidWorks models.
Support teaching and research activities in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Work on one-off components or small batches.
