Job summary

Unknown University workshop in Manchester is seeking an experienced CNC machinist to produce precision components from engineering drawings using both CNC and conventional machines. You will support teaching and research activities by manufacturing parts for one-off components or small batches.

The role requires extensive experience with lathe, mill, and machining centers, as well as an apprentice-trained background and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Experienced CNC machinist with lathe, mill and machining centers.
• Experienced operating conventional turning and milling machines.
• Experience producing precision components to tight tolerances.
• Mechanical Engineering ONC or BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent.
• Apprentice trained.
• Ability to work independently whilst contributing to a larger team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organise own work to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Produce a wide range of precision components from engineering drawings.
• Operate CNC and conventional machines in the workshop.
• Manufacture components for teaching and research activities.
• Work with CAM software generated from SolidWorks 3D models.
