Job Opportunity: CNC Workshop Production Engineer

We are recruiting for a CNC Workshop Production Engineer for a global engineering group focused on the precise control and movement of fluids in critical applications.

The company works with leading international companies in over 50 countries to deliver innovative engineering solutions addressing global trends such as clean energy, energy efficiency, healthcare, and increasing automation.

The company's Engineering Division specializes in designing and manufacturing highly specialized flow control valves tailored to order.

Hours of Work:

37 hours per week. 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am to 1:00pm Friday.

Location:

Poole, Dorset, Site based.

Job Summary

This engineering role within the Operations team is responsible for producing documentation, routings, procedures, programs, tooling, and equipment needed for manufacturing and testing valves for the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, and Marine sectors. The role involves supporting skilled operators, liaising with design engineering, and focusing on machining & automation of components. The candidate may also assist in other engineering support areas based on skillset.

Responsibilities
  1. Use CAM software to produce programs for multi-axis CNC machines, including 5-axis turn-mill, sliding head turn-mill, and 5-axis milling.
  2. Create set-up sheets with all necessary information for CNC machine setup, including photos and notes for first-time right production.
  3. Support the prove-out of new programs, ensuring correctness before production.
  4. Manage CNC programs and controls, ensuring timely updates and proper storage.
  5. Improve production techniques across machining, deburring, finishing, cleaning, and metrology.
  6. Assist production with technical support and problem-solving.
  7. Develop manufacturing solutions using standardized tooling and methods.
  8. Design new cutting tools and work-holding solutions as needed.
  9. Identify and lead root cause analyses for defective products/processes, implementing corrective actions.
  10. Lead continuous improvement activities, organize meetings, and contribute to action plans.
  11. Review product costs and quality issues, respond to NCRs, and manage change requests.
  12. Apply lean principles within the machining environment.
  13. Design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D) for production.
  14. Provide detailed manufacturing procedures.
  15. Refer to full job specification for additional details.
Requirements
  • Qualified to HNC level or working towards a similar Mechanical or Production Engineering qualification with relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of modern manufacturing methods.
  • Experience in process evaluation, capability studies, and equipment reviews.
  • Ability to design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D).
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools like VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, Error proofing.
  • Knowledge of DFM, Lean Manufacturing, VAVE.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Positive attitude, able to work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Project, and Excel.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Team player with influencing skills.
  • Experience in quality, safety, maintenance, and CNC machining.
  • Experience programming and setting 4/5-axis CNC machines.
  • Capable of producing CNC programs using CAM software.
