Job summary

Tritech Engineering Solutions (Wrexham) offers an Apprentice CNC Machinist role in a modern CNC environment, with structured training and practical experience across machining, inspection, hardness testing, quality and applications engineering.

You will study toward a formal apprenticeship qualification, gain exposure to wider manufacturing processes, and work with experienced teams to develop skills across several domains with potential progression based on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs Grade C or above in Maths, English and Science.
  • Level 2 Engineering Operations or similar engineering qualification (Desirable).
  • Practical engineering experience gained through education or training.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings or specifications.
  • Exposure to CNC machining or manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain production paperwork and records accurately.
  • Attend college and internal training as required.
  • Develop technical knowledge across machining, inspection and quality.
  • Support machining, inspection, and quality teams in daily tasks.
  • Assist with process improvement and cost efficiency initiatives.
  • Follow health and safety requirements and 5S housekeeping.

Job description

TES Machining

The role will be offered on a fixed-term contract and will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge across a modern CNC machining environment.

The primary focus of the role will be CNC machining and the completion of a Level 3 or above engineering/manufacturing qualification, while also providing practical experience across machining, inspection, hardness testing, quality and applications engineering.

Any decision to progress to a qualified or permanent position will not be guaranteed and will be dependent upon individual performance, skills, development, business requirements and job availability towards the end of the training period.

Morning Shift: Monday - Friday 06:00 - 13:30

Afternoon Shift: Monday - Thursday 13:15 - 21:00, Friday 13:15 - 19:45

College attendance is required for a relevant course

Apprentice CNC Machinist

The Apprentice CNC Machinist role provides an opportunity to develop the practical skills, technical knowledge and understanding required to build a career within a modern CNC machining environment.

The successful candidate will receive structured training and practical experience in CNC machine operation, machine setting, inspection and measurement, hardness testing, quality requirements and applications engineering, alongside their formal apprenticeship qualification.

The role will provide exposure to the wider manufacturing process, helping the apprentice understand not only how components are machined, but also how they are inspected, measured, tested and produced to customer and engineering requirements.

As the apprentice develops, they will work alongside experienced members of the Machining, Inspection, Quality and Applications Engineering teams, gaining an understanding of how different departments work together to achieve efficient production and high‑quality customer products.

The employee will willingly undertake, upon request, any other task they are able to perform. Elements of the role may vary as new technology, procedures and equipment are introduced.

CNC Machining
  • Develop the practical skills required to operate CNC machining equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Learn to set up CNC machines and support efficient machine utilisation.
  • Develop an understanding of CNC programmes, tooling, workholding and machining processes.
  • Learn to identify and respond to basic machining issues and elevate problems where appropriate.
  • Develop an understanding of different materials, cutting tools and machining methods.
  • Gain experience in multi‑manning machines and supporting efficient cell production.
  • Develop an understanding of job improvement and process efficiency.
Inspection & Measurement
  • Develop an understanding of engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
  • Learn to use common inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Carry out basic dimensional checks on machined components.
  • Maintain and correctly use gauging and measuring equipment within the machining cell.
  • Liaise with the Inspection Department to support timely first‑off inspections.
  • Develop an understanding of first‑off, in‑process and final inspection requirements.
  • Learn how inspection results are used to ensure components meet specification.
Hardness Testing
  • Develop an understanding of hardness testing and its application within the manufacturing process.
  • Receive training in the safe and correct use of hardness testing equipment.
  • Understand the importance of material condition and hardness requirements.
  • Support hardness testing activities as required and in line with relevant procedures.
  • Work towards the appropriate level of competency in hardness testing as training progresses.
Quality
  • Develop an understanding of quality requirements within a precision engineering environment.
  • Follow work instructions, procedures and quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation, including MIPC Sheets / Synchro Sheets where applicable.
  • Understand the importance of traceability and accurate recording of production information.
  • Work with the Quality and Inspection teams to understand non‑conformances and corrective actions.
  • Develop an awareness of continuous improvement and root cause problem solving.
  • Understand how quality performance impacts customer satisfaction and delivery.
Applications Engineering Exposure
  • Gain an understanding of how customer requirements are translated into manufacturing processes.
  • Work alongside Applications Engineering to develop an understanding of machining methods, tooling, workholding and process requirements.
  • Gain exposure to the introduction of new products and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop an understanding of how machining problems can be assessed and improvements identified.
  • Support Applications Engineering and Production with practical manufacturing information where appropriate.
  • Develop an awareness of process optimisation and manufacturing cost efficiency.
General Manufacturing Responsibilities
  • Maintain all production paperwork and records accurately.
  • Maintain the Lean Manufacturing environment operating within the cell.
  • Maintain all Health and Safety requirements.
  • Carry out housekeeping and 5S activities to maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment.
  • Liaise with other departments and attend meetings as required.
  • Attend college, internal training and other development activities as required.
  • Develop relevant technical knowledge and practical skills throughout the apprenticeship.
  • Take responsibility for individual job and process improvement.
  • Ensure daily preventative maintenance procedures are maintained in conjunction with the Cell Team Leader.
  • Support the wider production team as required.

Salary:

Pension: 5% min personal contribution, Company contribution of 3%

Annual Leave: 25 days plus 8 BH Pro-rata
