Job summary

Pertemps Network Group is seeking an experienced CNC Setter Operator to join its manufacturing division in Birmingham on a permanent basis. You will set and operate CNC milling and turning machines to produce precision components from engineering drawings.

You will install tooling, carry out tool changes, perform first-off and in-process inspections, and help optimise cycle times while maintaining quality and 5S standards. Training and progression opportunities are on offer.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' CNC setting and operating experience.
  • Experience with CNC Milling Centres (VMC) and other CNC equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring instruments.
  • GCSE Maths and English preferred; Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship advantageous.

  • Report machine faults and production issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and housekeeping in line with 5S.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Setter Operator to join a well-established and growing manufacturing business. The Role

Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC milling, turning, and other production machinery to manufacture precision components to engineering drawings and customer specifications.

Working closely with the production and engineering teams, you will ensure machines are running efficiently, maintaining high quality standards while meeting production schedules and performance targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and operate CNC milling, turning, and other production machinery.
  • Produce precision-engineered components to engineering drawings and specified tolerances.
  • Select and install tooling, jigs, fixtures, and cutting tools.
  • Carry out tool changes, offset adjustments, and minor programme amendments where required.
  • Perform first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Ensure all components meet quality standards before progressing through production.
  • Work with Production Coordinators and Engineers to optimise cycle times and machine performance.
  • Report machine faults and production issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and full product traceability.
  • Support and assist in training colleagues where appropriate.
  • Follow production schedules and achieve daily manufacturing targets.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in line with 5S principles.
  • Work safely at all times, following company Health & Safety procedures.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience setting and operating CNC machinery within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating CNC Milling Centres (VMC), Vertical Machining Centres, VMG machines, or similar CNC equipment.
  • Experience carrying out tooling changes, offset adjustments, and basic programme edits.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment including verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English are desirable, with a Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship considered advantageous.
