Job overview

You will take a key role in the management and leadership of the department. As a registered, accountable and autonomous nurse, you will act in the best interests of your patients at all times and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions. You will be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, providing and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care. As an NMC registrant, you will facilitate learning and development of others. You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and be open, transparent and trustworthy. As a Trust employee, act with integrity and uphold the values and beliefs of the Trust and the NMC Code of Conduct.

Opportunities exist for full or part time covering 24hr shift patterns which are family friendly (evenings, early/late etc.) usually over 3-5 days/nights per week (hours dependent).

Main duties of the job

With an increasing attendance of approximately 50,000 patients per year, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality care. We are a designated Trauma Unit with a Spinal Unit and Burns and Plastics Unit. We are currently expanding our leadership team to make us a leading department in Wessex. We also work closely with the ambulance service and other specialist teams within the hospital and community.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will demonstrate expert knowledge in emergency nursing and translate this into effective practice. They will be a team player with proven leadership abilities, energetic, proactive, and committed to professional development.

A minimum of 2 years ED experience is required, along with 6 months previous experience at band 6. The role includes acting as shift co-ordinator, leading front door services as ED navigator, mentoring a night group, and completing staff appraisals. Mentorship qualifications and trauma courses (EPALS, ALS, TNCC) are desirable. Experience in paediatric emergency nursing is also valued.
