Job summary

hVIVO in London is seeking a Clinical Support Specialist to support volunteer screening, quarantine and follow-up in a fast-paced clinical trial setting. The role offers shift-based work across screening and quarantine, with a 37.5 hour week and rota-based scheduling.

You will collaborate with the Clinical Operations team, promote volunteer wellbeing, ensure sample integrity, and assist with daily clinic planning and documentation.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at A–C (or equivalent).
• Immediate Life Support certification.
• Hep B immunisation.
• Demonstrated customer service and communication skills.
• Good IT skills (Word and Excel or equivalent).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Experience in healthcare settings, ideally hospital environment.
• Phlebotomy training desirable.
• Experience in clinical research environment; Biological Science degree and knowledge of ICH‑GCP desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assess suitability of volunteers' veins for cannulation and blood draws.
• Use venepuncture methods to obtain samples and ensure proper labelling.
• Maintain sample integrity and correct handling of samples.
• Promote wellbeing and escalate incidents to Screening Manager and Lead Screening Nurse.
• Assist in daily activities planning for the screening clinic.
• Follow SOPs and study protocols; assist with management of the clinical area.
• Provide volunteers with correct documents and ensure proper completion.
• Liaise with stakeholders for daily volunteer visit schedules.
• Assist with venepuncture training with Training Coordinator.
• Monitor safety and compliance with health and safety guidelines; participate in audits.
• Perform administrative duties when designated.

hVIVO are currently seeking a Clinical Support Specialist (CSS) with exceptional customer service skills to join the FluCamp team in London. We are looking for a candidate to start mid-August.

At hVIVO we conduct human challenge clinical trials. The end goal of our work is to potentially eradicate common illnesses like the common cold and flu completely - or at least make treatment of them as easy and effective as possible. Our volunteers are central to the work that we do. Our studies focus on testing new treatments on real people, in a safe, controlled, clinical environment.

The CSS will support the multidisciplinary team in the planning and execution of daily activities throughout volunteer screening, Quarantine and follow-up. They will work collaboratively with the wider Clinical Operations team to meet the needs of volunteers and support the delivery of the function.

Key points to consider

• Work in both screening and Quarantine
• Full‑time role: 37.5 hours per week
• Shifts allocated on a rota basis; assigned based on operational needs
• Shifts to be covered across the two areas: Monday to Sunday
• Overtime & unsocial shift rates apply

• Quarantine Unit – 19:30 to 08:30
• Quarantine Unit – 07:30 to 20:30
• Screening Clinic – 08:00 to 16:00

Responsibilities

• Assess suitability of volunteer’s veins for cannulation and frequent blood draws
• Use the correct venepuncture method to obtain blood samples
• Maintain sample integrity and ensure samples are correctly labelled and handled
• Promote wellbeing of subjects during and after the venepuncture process, participate in vasovagal management; responsible for escalating any incidents to the Screening Manager and Lead Screening Nurse
• Involvement in the preparation and planning of daily activities of the screening clinic
• Practice in accordance with internal policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Study Protocols; assist with the daily management of the clinical area
• Provide information and correct versions of documentation to volunteers, ensuring these are completed correctly
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders for the daily schedule of volunteer’s visit
• Support with venepuncture training of new team members in collaboration with Training Coordinator
• Monitor work areas and practices to ensure that they are safe, free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
• Participate in audits where appropriate
• Administrative duties when designated
