Job Summary

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen within the York and Selby Adult Community Learning Disability team for a Clinical Specialist Nurse to cover maternity leave. The role requires working autonomously in a fast-paced environment, providing clinical leadership, nursing assessments, and interventions within a defined caseload. The post involves working collaboratively with internal and external partners to support individuals with learning disabilities and their families, aligning with the Trust's values of coproduction and collaboration.

Main Duties
  • Lead on professional development and ensure delivery of evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain high standards of nursing practice in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Provide nurse-led diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Undertake ongoing audits of care and service delivery, supported by research and evidence-based practice.
  • Support team management and contribute to continuous improvement within governance frameworks.
  • Participate in clinical/professional supervision and multidisciplinary team working.
  • Utilize the System One electronic patient record system effectively.
  • Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
  • Respond flexibly and creatively to challenges.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
  • Current Professional Registration with NMC (RMN / RNLD / RGN)
  • Recognized Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or in progress
  • Training in Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
  • Postgraduate diploma or equivalent in a relevant area, or willing to work towards within 2 years
  • Recognition in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification within the first year (e.g., CBT, Family Therapy, Prescribing)
Knowledge (Essential)
  • Extensive knowledge of current health issues relating to learning disabilities
  • Understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, and clinical risk management
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and medicines management
Experience (Essential)
  • Significant experience working with patients with complex needs and risk behaviors
  • Experience working collaboratively with families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Engagement in quality improvement activities
