Job summary

AMG Nursing and Care Services in Wolverhampton is seeking an experienced Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) to step into the Clinical Services Lead for Learning Disabilities and Challenging Behaviour.

You will provide clinical leadership, oversee delivery of high‑quality services, develop person-centred plans, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and least‑restrictive care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist clinical leadership in learning disability nursing and management of behaviours that challenge

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) to join our team as Clinical Services Lead for Learning Disabilities & Challenging Behaviour.

This is a key clinical leadership role, providing specialist nursing expertise for individuals with learning disabilities who may present with behaviours that challenge, complex health needs, communication difficulties and associated mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions.

The successful candidate will provide strong clinical leadership, oversee the delivery and development of high-quality clinical services and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure individuals receive safe, effective and least-restrictive support.

Key Responsibilities

As Clinical Services Lead, you will:

  • Provide specialist clinical leadership in learning disability nursing and the management of behaviours that challenge.
  • Lead and support the assessment, development, implementation and review of person-centred care plans.
  • Oversee the quality, safety and effectiveness of clinical service delivery.
  • Promote evidence-based approaches to Positive Behaviour Support and the reduction of restrictive practices.
  • Provide clinical advice, guidance and leadership to nursing, support and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Ensure physical, psychological, behavioural and communication needs are considered as part of holistic clinical assessment.
  • Support the development and review of Positive Behaviour Support plans, risk assessments and crisis management strategies.
  • Champion the principles of least-restrictive practice, dignity, choice, independence and human rights.
  • Work collaboratively with individuals, families, advocates and external professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Provide leadership in safeguarding, clinical risk management and the management of complex presentations.
  • Monitor standards of clinical and nursing practice and lead on clinical audits, quality improvement and service development.
  • Support incident reviews, identify learning and ensure appropriate actions are implemented.
  • Provide supervision, coaching and professional leadership to registered nurses and wider care teams.
  • Support staff development through training, reflective practice and competency assessment.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical policies, pathways, standards and governance processes.
  • Maintain oversight of clinical documentation, ensuring records are accurate, timely and compliant with organisational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure services operate in accordance with NMC requirements, relevant legislation, national guidance and organisational policies.
About You

You will be a confident and experienced Learning Disability Nurse with the clinical knowledge, leadership ability and service oversight skills required to support individuals with complex needs.

You will ideally have:

  • Current NMC registration as a Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD).
  • Significant post-registration experience within learning disability services.
  • Experience supporting individuals who display behaviours that challenge.
  • Strong knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and least-restrictive practice.
  • Experience managing complex clinical risk and safeguarding concerns.
  • A strong understanding of learning disability, autism, communication needs and associated physical and mental health conditions.
  • Experience developing and reviewing person-centred care plans and behavioural support strategies.
  • Strong clinical governance, quality assurance and service improvement skills.
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals, families and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • A commitment to improving quality of life, promoting independence and ensuring individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Formal training or qualifications in Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Experience of reducing restrictive interventions.
  • Experience working within complex care, residential, inpatient or community learning disability services.
  • Experience supporting people with autism and complex communication needs.
  • Experience delivering staff training and clinical education.
