Job summary

Wilderness Way is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to provide specialist psychological leadership for children and young people across our services. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to understand needs, guide care planning and support effective clinical governance.

You’ll deliver evidence-informed interventions, supervise professionals and help develop psychologically informed environments across residential, education and outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy or equivalent).
• Current HCPC registration.
• Experience with or interest in supporting children and young people in the context of trauma, risk and development.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist psychological consultation, formulation and clinical guidance for children and young people.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning, risk assessment and placement decisions.
• Deliver trauma-informed psychological interventions and supervise or coach teams as needed.

What You’ll Do

As our Clinical Psychologist, you’ll provide specialist psychological leadership across the organisation, helping teams understand the experiences, behaviours and needs of the children and young people in our care.

You’ll:

• Provide specialist psychological consultation, formulation and clinical guidance to support understanding of children and young people’s needs, behaviours and experiences in line with our CARE values.
• Provide clinical input to our Referral Team, supporting complex referrals, risk assessment, formulation and placement suitability decisions.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions, care planning, placement reviews and risk management processes.
• Provide psychological consultation to therapists, residential teams, education and outdoor teams to embed trauma responsive practice.
• Deliver evidence-informed psychological interventions where clinically indicated.
• Support the development of psychologically informed environments through consultation, training and reflective practice.
• Contribute to workforce development through recruitment support, training delivery, coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Support clinical governance processes, including outcome measurement, audit, evaluation and quality improvement.
• Work collaboratively with operational and clinical leaders to further develop and enhance our therapeutic services.
• Support the Clinical Director in the collection, analysis and presentation of clinical outcomes and service development data.
• Act as a responsible contact in the absence of the Clinical Director.

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

• Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy or equivalent).
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Experience of, or a strong interest in, supporting children and young people involved in the Criminal Justice System (CJS), with an understanding of the impact of trauma, risk and offending behaviours on development, wellbeing and engagement.

Desirable Qualifications

• Postgraduate training or experience in child and adolescent mental health, developmental trauma or attachment-focused approaches.
• Additional specialist training in trauma-focused approaches such as EMDR, DDP, CBT, ACT or systemic practice.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

• Significant experience completing specialist psychological assessments for children with complex presentations and providing formulation-based insights that inform multidisciplinary care planning.
• Knowledge of developmental trauma, attachment, emotional regulation and adverse childhood experiences.
• Experience of, or a strong interest in, supporting children and young people involved in the Criminal Justice System (CJS), with an understanding of the impact of trauma, risk and offending behaviours on development, wellbeing, relationships and engagement.
• Experience of multidisciplinary working, safeguarding, risk assessment and supporting psychologically informed practice.
• Experience working within residential childcare or Ofsted-regulated services.
• Experience working across education, care and health systems.
• Experience supervising or developing professionals.
