Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Operations Assistant to join the Bio-Sample and Logistics team. This role involves supporting administrative and operational tasks across various Bio-Sample workstreams. The team manages the setup and operation of the Our Future Health cohort, which includes recruiting 5 million participants and collecting their data and biological samples within set budgets and timelines.

About Our Future Health

Despite healthcare improvements, many in the UK still face poor health as they age, with diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affecting communities. Our goal is to develop a world-leading health research resource to better understand and address these diseases, enabling earlier and more effective treatments.

Our Future Health is the UK’s largest health research initiative, bringing people together to innovate in disease detection, prevention, and treatment. Supported by the UK Government and in partnership with charities and industry, we work closely with the NHS and public authorities across the UK.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Collaborate with colleagues across recruitment, logistics, and biosample workstreams.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks daily and weekly.
  • Order clinic consumables and track their delivery.
  • Prepare data reports and presentation materials.
  • Manage your workload efficiently, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Monitor shared email inboxes and escalate issues proactively.
  • Write and format operational documents.
  • Take ownership of tasks and contribute proactively to team goals.
  • Assist with logistical tasks related to biosample packaging and reconciliation.
  • Handle participant and clinic partner queries via FreshService.
  • Manage participant withdrawals and sample disposals.
  • Address incidents such as mislabelled samples.
  • Support new operational projects as needed.
  • Organise meetings and record minutes.
  • Provide operational support during team members’ leave or sickness.
  • Assist in creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
Candidate skills and qualities:
  • Experience in an administrative or operational role.
  • Knowledge of the UK clinical research environment.
  • Quick learner, adaptable to new systems and processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Proactive, independent work approach.
  • Interest in career progression in Operations.
  • Willingness to attend site visits.
  • Knowledge of population research or cohort studies is advantageous.
  • Understanding of regulatory processes like GCP is advantageous.
