Job description

The post holder will be a qualified nurse with extensive experience in Haematology/Cancer nursing. They will demonstrate a commitment to career-long learning and possess highly developed leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

The post holder will work in partnership with other organizations, professionals, and specialties, referring patients appropriately (e.g., surgical and oncology colleagues, specialist palliative care, primary care, and social services).

As the key worker, the post holder will plan a systematic approach to assessing and managing patient care in consultation with MDTs and other organizations, addressing individual needs and involving patients and their carers in disease management. They will also encourage patient participation in care and service development.

The role of the specialist nurse includes policy and standards development, education, research, and professional development. The ultimate goal is to provide a cost-effective, efficient, high-quality service that meets the needs of the patient group.

  • Caring for patients with lymphoma, myeloma, leukemia, MPN/MDS. Occasionally, providing care, advice, and support to patients with non-cancerous hematology issues such as iron deficiency anemia and ITP.
  • Providing senior clinical support and expert nursing advice to all staff caring for patients.
  • Managing a caseload of patients to ensure they receive expert nursing advice and care.
  • Conducting specialist Hematology clinics and supporting the Consultant Hematologist in specific clinics as required.

After completing these six and a half days of training, further leadership and improvement training opportunities are available. Additional in-house and external courses and bite-sized programs are offered through our Leadership and Improvement Team.
