Job description

We are welcoming applications in Sunderland for the B7 Specialist Nurse Child Protection position; this is an exciting opportunity to join our Safeguarding Team in Sunderland. The post will involve working equally between the Front Door (ICRT) and as a SNCP in Sunderland. You will be part of a network of professionals and agencies contributing to safeguarding children. Utilizing your specialist knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and legal frameworks, you will support the Named Nurse in ensuring the delivery of high-quality safeguarding care that assures the trust and its wider partners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Analyze health information to produce high-quality reports with recommendations for MASH to assist in safeguarding children in the ICRT (Front Door). Contribute to and undertake audits alongside other Senior Nurses for Child Protection.
2. Support the Named Nurse in preparing information for the quarterly contract report and the safeguarding annual report.
3. Support the delivery of safeguarding training within the locality as required.
4. Act as a safeguarding peer supervisor for the 0-19 (25) team.
5. Offer support and advice to practitioners regarding frontline safeguarding and escalation when necessary.
6. Support staff new to the trust and students in meeting safeguarding competencies during the Preceptor period.
7. Establish effective working relationships with all professionals and agencies involved in safeguarding children and young people in Sunderland.
8. Use knowledge of child development, law, and risks to identify when professional challenge is needed.
9. Support the Safeguarding Children's Team in delivering training, supervision, and audits.
10. Provide advice and support to partner agencies and the Sunderland 0-19 (25) service.
11. Advise health professionals and other agencies about health needs and signpost to appropriate health providers, referring to senior team members as appropriate.

The Contribution of the Health Role

1. Analyze health information across systems to produce reports with safeguarding recommendations.
2. Attend complex case strategy meetings and ICPCs as needed.
3. Confidently challenge partners when thresholds for safeguarding are not appropriate.
4. Participate in complex strategy discussions when a child is at imminent risk of harm.
5. Support the 0-19 (25) service to ensure safeguarding of children and adults.
6. Facilitate safeguarding training and staff supervision.
7. Attend multi-agency safeguarding meetings.

Additional Information

The role involves working from two sites in Sunderland (Camberwell Way and Sandhills).
