Based at St Peters' hospital in Chertsey, we are seeking an experienced Pharmacist to enhance our Pharmacy Services for women’s health and paediatrics by:

• Ensuring the provision of a high-quality clinical pharmacy service tailored to women’s health and paediatrics, meeting the needs of patients and healthcare professionals within and associated with the Trust.
• Leading, planning, and developing advanced specialist clinical pharmacy services for women’s health and paediatric patients, offering expert advice on pharmaceutical matters to promote safe, cost-effective, and appropriate prescribing.

This role positions you as a key leader within the team, helping to shape the future of pharmacy services in Women’s and Children’s specialties with a focus on collaboration, patient care, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

• Act as a referral point for medicines optimisation in women’s health and paediatrics for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to promote safe, effective medicine use, acting as an expert resource in this area.
• Establish and strengthen links with senior management to support pharmacy’s contribution to cost-effective, safe, and efficient medicine prescribing and use.
• Coordinate and develop ward-based clinical pharmacy services to provide high-quality, cost-effective pharmaceutical care.
• Work with other clinical leaders to implement improvement plans aligned with national, regional, and local objectives for medicine optimisation in women’s health and paediatrics.
• Support clinical pharmacy staff within women’s and children’s clinical areas, ensuring core services are delivered effectively.
• Engage with consultants on prescribing issues within their specialties to optimize treatment benefits, aligned with guidelines.
• Provide backup for the neonatal lead pharmacist.

• Have significant hospital experience, including providing clinical pharmacy services beyond Foundation level.
• Possess a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.

Clinical Services and Leadership

• Provide specialist clinical pharmacy services to the nominated division, covering other wards in the absence of colleagues.
• Support initiatives for effective discharge medicine management.
• Develop policies and guidelines relevant to pharmacy practice.
• Serve as a point of contact for medical and nursing staff, providing pharmaceutical advice during meetings and ward rounds.

Medicines and Financial Management

• Assist in identifying prescribing issues, budget pressures, and protocol deviations, presenting findings to management.
• Develop initiatives to promote cost-effective prescribing and monitor drug expenditure.
• Ensure adherence to hospital formulary, guidelines, and protocols.
• Provide expert input for paediatric and neonatal services and participate in relevant meetings.
• Work with the Medication Safety Officer to identify and mitigate medication risks.
• Investigate medication incidents and handle drug error and patient/staff complaints.

Education and Training

• Contribute to training pharmacists, students, and healthcare professionals.
• Act as a supervisor for training programs and personal development activities.
• Engage in continuous professional development following GPhC standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Further Training

• M. Pharm degree or equivalent.
• GPhC registration.
• Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.

Knowledge

• In-depth clinical knowledge of drugs and therapeutic trends.
• Understanding of NHS commissioning and national guidance (e.g., NICE).
• Experience in clinical audit and implementation of outcomes.

Experience

• Extensive hospital pharmacy experience, including leadership roles.
• Knowledge of women’s and children’s health pharmacotherapy.
• Experience with drug expenditure analysis, project management, and staff supervision.

Salary: £55,877 to £62,626 per annum, including HCAS.
