Job summary

Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Clinical Lead in Oncology. The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, with a flexible shift pattern and a salary up to £45,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

You will lead the oncology nursing team, ensure safe delivery of systemic therapies, and uphold national guidelines while driving governance and clinical excellence within the department.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with NMC registration is essential.
  • Specialist oncology nursing experience including SACT administration.
  • Oncology/cancer care qualification such as UKONS SACT Passport or equivalent.
  • Advanced practice or non-medical prescribing (V300) is desirable.
  • Leadership or management qualification (ILM, PGCert, MBA) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of safe and effective oncology care and SACT administration.
  • Ensure adherence to national oncology guidelines and treatment pathways.
  • Maintain clinical competencies and act as oncology nursing expert.
  • Coordinate safe administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies and training.
  • Oversee regulatory and professional standards (CQC, NMC, etc.).
  • Conduct audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Lead infection prevention, medicine management, and safeguarding.
  • Ensure governance compliance for chemotherapy-related events.

Clinical Lead - Oncology

Salary: Up to £45,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury is part of Circle Health Group , Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Clinical Lead to join their team of staff in the Oncology department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include
  • Lead the delivery of safe and effective care to oncology patients, including those undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, radiotherapy, and palliative care.
  • Ensure adherence to national oncology guidelines (e.g., UKONS, NICE), protocols, and treatment pathways.
  • Maintain personal clinical competencies and act as an expert resource and role model in oncology nursing practice.
  • Coordinate safe administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), ensuring all staff involved are appropriately trained and competent.
  • Oversee compliance with all regulatory, professional, and organisational standards, including those from CQC, HIS, HIW, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Conduct and support clinical audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).
  • Lead on infection prevention and control, medicine management, and safeguarding within the oncology department.
  • Ensure oncology services comply with local and national clinical governance frameworks, including management of chemotherapy-related adverse events and oncological emergencies (e.g., neutropenic sepsis).
Applicants should meet the following criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
  • Specialist experience in oncology nursing, including SACT administration.
  • Recognised qualification in oncology nursing or cancer care (e.g. UKONS SACT Passport, chemotherapy competency).
  • Strong leadership and people management experience.
  • Excellent clinical decision-making, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Working knowledge of clinical governance, cancer pathways, and patient safety principles.
  • Advanced practice or non-medical prescribing qualification (V300).
  • Experience managing oncology services in a senior clinical role.
  • Leadership or management qualification (e.g. ILM, PGCert, MBA).
  • Knowledge of research, clinical trials, and innovative cancer therapies.
  • Familiarity with national cancer strategies, waiting time targets, and audit requirements (e.g., COSD, NCDA).
