Job summary

Circle Health Group’s Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury seeks a Clinical Lead for Oncology to oversee safe, evidence-based cancer care. The post covers SACT delivery, adherence to UK guidelines, and leadership across the oncology team.

The role requires senior clinical experience, NMC registration, and Oncology nursing qualifications, with a focus on governance and patient safety. 37.5 hours per week with flexible shifts and a competitive package.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
• Specialist oncology nursing experience with SACT administration.
• UKONS SACT Passport or chemotherapy competency.
• Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
• Knowledge of clinical governance, cancer pathways and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of safe, effective oncology care including patients undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy.
• Ensure adherence to national oncology guidelines and treatment pathways.
• Maintain clinical competencies and act as expert resource in oncology nursing.
• Coordinate safe administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) with trained staff.
• Oversee compliance with regulatory standards (NMC, CQC, HIS, HIW).
• Conduct audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and RCAs.
• Lead infection prevention, medicine management and safeguarding in the department.
• Ensure governance frameworks and management of chemotherapy-related adverse events.

Clinical Lead - Oncology
Chaucer Hospital
37.5 Hours & Permanent
Salary: Up to £45,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

We have an opportunity for a Clinical Lead to join their team of staff in the Oncology department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

• Lead the delivery of safe and effective care to oncology patients, including those undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, radiotherapy, and palliative care.
• Ensure adherence to national oncology guidelines (e.g., UKONS, NICE), protocols, and treatment pathways.
• Maintain personal clinical competencies and act as an expert resource and role model in oncology nursing practice.
• Coordinate safe administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), ensuring all staff involved are appropriately trained and competent.
• Oversee compliance with all regulatory, professional, and organisational standards, including those from CQC, HIS, HIW, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Conduct and support clinical audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).
• Lead on infection prevention and control, medicine management, and safeguarding within the oncology department.
• Ensure oncology services comply with local and national clinical governance frameworks, including management of chemotherapy-related adverse events and oncological emergencies (e.g., neutropenic sepsis).

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
• Specialist experience in oncology nursing, including SACT administration.
• Recognised qualification in oncology nursing or cancer care (e.g. UKONS SACT Passport, chemotherapy competency).
• Strong leadership and people management experience.
• Excellent clinical decision-making, communication, and coordination skills.
• Working knowledge of clinical governance, cancer pathways, and patient safety principles.
• Advanced practice or non-medical prescribing qualification (V300).
• Experience managing oncology services in a senior clinical role.
• Knowledge of research, clinical trials, and innovative cancer therapies.
• Familiarity with national cancer strategies, waiting time targets, and audit requirements (e.g., COSD, NCDA).
