Job description

The Post

The department wishes the successful candidate to receive high quality training and the timetable will vary according to their educational needs and stage in training. This post is an ideal opportunity to develop experience in Cardiology either at CMT level to solidify career aspirations in Cardiology and develop skills to enhance prospects in that field.

Principle Duties

The post holder will work in the Cardiology department, being an integral member of the Cardiology team. The role will be to provide daily support to the Cardiology ward (B14) and any outlying Cardiology patients by working as part of the ward MDT and in cooperation with the Cardiology consultant of the week and other junior and middle grade staff. In addition, the junior clinical fellow will receive training at a level appropriate to their stage of career and previous experience. This will include out-patient clinics and can include training/experience in other aspects of invasive and non-invasive Cardiology as agreed between the post holder and the department.

The post holder will take an active part in MDT meetings and will be encouraged to undertake audit and there is opportunity to be involved in research.

The post holder will have to contribute to weekend daytime ward cover.

The post holder will also be involved in teaching. The teaching fellow post will consist of 50% teaching and 50% clinical mainly to the medical students.

General

  1. In conjunction with colleagues, to provide a service in Cardiology.
  2. In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in management of Cardiology in-patients.
  3. To provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
  4. In conjunction with colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
  5. In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
  6. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Junior Medical Staff

  1. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the supervision of junior medical staff.

Management & Service Development

  1. In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.
  2. To observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.

Clinical Governance

  1. In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

Health & Safety

  1. To take responsibility for your own Health & Safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place.
  2. To accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any hazards are reported and managed appropriately.

Any Other Duties

  1. Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
