NHS Scotland is seeking a Clinical Development Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics. This role offers a blend of clinical practice and teaching opportunities, ideal for those with surgical experience looking to further their training. The position is based between two hospitals in Paisley and Greenock, focusing on trauma and elective services.

We invite applications for the role of Clinical Development Fellow within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team in Clyde. This position is ideal for individuals who have completed foundation training or equivalent and seek additional experience before applying for specialty training. Applicants should have recent surgical specialty experience at FY2+ level and demonstrate successful completion of Immediate Life Support (ILS) training.
The successful candidate will balance ward-based clinical practice with protected time for teaching and professional development. There are opportunities to develop and deliver teaching to medical students for those interested in medical education.
The Orthopaedic Unit in Clyde operates between the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The trauma unit is based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, handling acute inpatient and day-case trauma. Inpatient elective services are provided at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, with trauma and outpatient services at both hospitals.
Appointees will have regular meetings with their Clinical/Educational Supervisor to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP). They will also contribute to the junior out-of-hours rota at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, which is shared among 10 junior doctors and includes internal cover for leave. The post involves rotation to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for a set number of weeks.
This position does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and is not recognized for training by NES. Applicants must hold PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check and GMC full registration with a Licence to Practise, having completed foundation or equivalent training.
