Job summary

Lex Leisure is seeking a Coach (Climbing Wall Instructor) to ensure safe, enjoyable use of climbing facilities and to motivate participants through clear communication and high service standards. The role requires delivering training and supervising sessions within BMC/ABC/HSE guidance.

Candidates must hold a CWI certificate, CWDI for lead sessions, and complete annual DS19/DS20 training. The job involves daily safety checks, incident reporting, and lead-by-example coaching across the centre.

Qualifications

• Essential qualification: Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) certificate approved by Mountain Training.
• Lead Climbing Qualification: CWDI required to supervise lead climbing sessions.
• Mandatory Annual Training: Annual DS19 and DS20 Climbing Wall Rescue Procedure training.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate performance and provide constructive feedback to participants.
• Adapt sessions to the needs of groups or individuals.
• Communicate clear instructions and commands.
• Encourage participants to develop skills and techniques.
• Ensure high health and safety standards at all times.
• Perform daily and monthly safety checks of walls, equipment and auto-belay.
• Quarantine defective equipment and report faults to the Line Manager.
• Deliver 6-monthly refresher training to site Monitors, Supervisors and Inductors.
• Respond to climbing emergencies and carry out auto-belay rescue procedures.
• Inspire confidence and self-belief in participants.
