Job summary

Somerset County Council is seeking a Client Finance Assistant in Taunton to help safeguard and manage the finances of vulnerable adults. You will support Court of Protection applications and oversee financial arrangements for service users lacking capacity.

You will apply the Mental Capacity Act, work with DWP, banks and other bodies, and balance legislation with individual needs. The role offers a permanent contract, 37 hours weekly, and hybrid working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a finance or administrative environment.
  • Good knowledge of welfare benefits, banking processes, Court of Protection and Office of the Public Guardian procedures.
  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • Numerate, literate, organised and adaptable, with a proactive approach.

Responsibilities

  • Support Court of Protection applications and financial arrangements for service users lacking capacity.
  • Safeguard and manage finances of vulnerable adults.
  • Provide clear advice to service users, families, colleagues and partners.
  • Work with DWP, banks and legal bodies to ensure compliance.

Grade 13, ranging from £25,989 to £28,142 per annum.

About the Role

As a Client Finance Assistant, you will make a real difference by helping to safeguard and manage the finances of vulnerable adults. You'll support Court of Protection applications, oversee financial arrangements for service users who lack capacity, and ensure everything is managed in line with legislation, best practice, and the requirements of organisations such as the DWP, banks, and the Court of Protection.

  • Support vulnerable people with complex financial arrangements and sensitive financial matters.
  • Apply the Mental Capacity Act and best-interest decision making with confidence.
  • Use sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills to balance legislation, guidance and individual needs.
  • Manage a varied workload effectively, prioritising competing demands and meeting deadlines.
  • Build positive relationships and provide clear advice to service users, families, colleagues and partners.
  • Work collaboratively with social care professionals, legal representatives, government bodies and financial institutions.
What You'll Bring
  • Experience in a finance or administrative environment.
  • Strong IT skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of welfare benefits, banking processes, Court of Protection and Office of the Public Guardian procedures.
  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/Level 4+ in English and Maths, or relevant administrative experience.
  • Numerate, literate, organised and adaptable, with a confident and proactive approach.
